Easy Dotted Advent Vases

A Modern, Minimal & Festive Centerpiece for the Holiday Season

As the days get shorter and the glow of the holiday season begins to fill our homes, creating a warm and thoughtful Advent decoration becomes a beautiful way to welcome December. This year’s project is a modern twist on the traditional Advent arrangement—clean lines, soft tones, and a playful two-tone effect using simple round stickers. With just two vases, four candles, and your favorite Montana Cans colors, you can craft a centerpiece that feels elegant, festive, and wonderfully handmade.

Materials Needed

• Two ceramic or glass vases with two candle holes each

Montana Universal PRIMER

Montana GOLD Line in cream and dark red (or any two contrasting holiday colors)

• Round stickers (optionally various sizes)

Montana VARNISH to seal

• Four candles

• Christmas decorations: pine branches, dried oranges, berries, ornaments, ribbon

• Drop sheet, gloves, and mask

Step-by-Step Instructions

Prepare Your Vases

Start by giving both vases a gentle clean to remove dust or residue. This ensures an even, professional paint finish. Lay down a drop sheet to protect your workspace and put on gloves and a mask for safety. Apply a thin coat of Montana Universal PRIMER to both vases. This helps the color adhere beautifully and prevents chipping later. Let the primer dry fully before moving on.

Spray the Base Colors

Choose two contrasting tones—here, one vase is sprayed in a soft cream while the other is coated in a rich dark red from the Montana GOLD Line. Use light, even passes while spraying and rotate the vase to achieve smooth, consistent coverage. Allow both vases to dry completely before adding the decorative details.

Add the Sticker Pattern

Once the base coat has dried, place round stickers onto each vase. You can scatter them randomly for a playful look or create a more structured pattern—both work beautifully. The stickers act as stencils that will reveal the base color later. Press them firmly to avoid paint seeping underneath.

Paint the Second Layer

Now spray each vase in the opposite color:

• The cream vase receives a coat of dark red.

• The dark red vase gets a fresh layer of cream.

This creates a reversed, complementary look that ties the two pieces together while keeping them visually interesting. Be patient and let this second coat dry fully before peeling the stickers.

Reveal the Two-Tone Dots

Carefully remove the stickers to reveal perfect circular pops of the original base color beneath. This moment is always satisfying—the crisp contrast between the shades brings the whole design to life.

Seal & Protect

To make your Advent decoration durable and long-lasting, spray both vases with a clear Montana VARNISH. This seals the paint, adds extra protection, and gives the surface a polished finish. Choose matte or gloss depending on your preferred look.

Decorate for Christmas

Once the varnish has dried, it’s time for the festive magic. Insert your four candles into the vases—two candles per vase—and begin adding seasonal touches:

• Evergreen sprigs or eucalyptus

• Dried oranges and cinnamon sticks

• Mini ornaments or golden bells

• A ribbon wrapped around the vase neck

• Fresh berries or star-shaped decorations

Arrange everything on your table or sideboard as your new Advent centerpiece. It’s clean, modern, and wonderfully handmade—perfect for brightening cozy December evenings.
