Introducing the new CONCRETE EFFECT

Create elegant, concrete-inspired pieces with Montana CONCRETE Effect Spray

Are you looking to add a sleek, minimalist touch to your home décor? With Montana Cans’ new CONCRETE Effect Spray, you can achieve a stunning concrete aesthetic that feels modern and sophisticated—perfect for sprucing up your space. In this project, we’ll show you how to transform simple objects like coasters, a bookend, and a decorative plate into stunning concrete-inspired pieces, using Montana CONCRETE Effect Spray in all three available shades.

Materials You’ll Need

  • Montana CONCRETE Effect Spray in City Hall, Pantheon, Empire
  • Coasters, bookend, decorative plate (or other small items of your choice)
  • Drop sheets (to protect your workspace)
  • Gloves and mask (for safety)
  • Tools like a piece of foil or a textured tool for creating the scratched effect

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Prepare Your Workspace

Before diving into your DIY project, make sure your workspace is well-prepped. Lay down drop sheets to protect surrounding surfaces from spray mist, and ensure the area is clean, dry, and free of dust. Don’t forget to wear gloves and a mask for added protection, as we’ll be using aerosol paints.

2. Shake and Test Your Spray

Shake the Montana CONCRETE Effect Spray can vigorously for at least three minutes to mix the pigments properly. As always, it’s a good idea to test the spray on a non-visible part of the object to ensure the surface is compatible with the paint.

3. Apply the First Layer

Start with a thin base layer of the lightest shade, City Hall (RAL 7004), holding the spray can about 25 cm from the object. Remember to spray in smooth, even strokes, covering the entire surface. Let this first layer dry for about 15 minutes.

4. Build Your Layers with Texture

Once your base coat is dry, it’s time to bring in more depth by layering the two darker shades, Pantheon (RAL 7030) and Empire (RAL 7044). Use light, thin coats, and apply the colors in different areas to create natural-looking variation.

For a more realistic concrete texture, use the wet-on-wet technique—apply the second coat before the first is completely dry. While the paint is still wet, take a piece of foil or a textured tool and gently scratch the surface to mimic the roughness of real concrete. You can also use irregular motions to create small cracks and imperfections, which will give the final piece a raw, industrial feel.

5. Repeat and Refine

Continue adding layers of each color, building texture as you go. You can experiment with how much paint you apply in different sections—thicker layers will create a heavier concrete feel, while thinner ones keep it more subtle.

6. Dry and Final Touches

Allow your pieces to dry completely. Montana CONCRETE Effect Spray dries to the touch in approximately 30 minutes and is fully cured after 24 hours. Once the objects are dry, you can optionally sand certain areas with coarse sandpaper to enhance the textured look or even add another layer of paint for more depth.

The Result: Modern, Minimalist Concrete Decor

After just a few hours of work, you’ll have a set of stunning decorative pieces that bring a modern, concrete aesthetic to your home. Whether it’s coasters for your living room, a chic bookend for your shelf, or a stylish plate for displaying small items, these objects will add a sophisticated yet minimalist touch to your interior. They also work assembled on your coffee table, or anywhere else in your home.

The beauty of the Montana CONCRETE Effect Spray lies in its versatility—it allows you to transform ordinary items into concrete-inspired decor. Plus, with its matte finish and realistic texture, you’ll fool anyone into thinking it’s the real deal.

Pro Tips:

Test before you paint. Always test the spray on a small, hidden area to make sure the material works well with the paint. Work in layers. Building thin, gradual layers of different shades helps create a more natural, authentic concrete look.

Get creative with texture. Don’t be afraid to play around with textures—use foil, tools, or even your hands. Happy crafting!
